In America, fall is dedicated to football — the brown, oblong kind, just so we’re clear. All across the country, hordes of diehard fanatics congregate each Saturday to witness collegiate titans clash in a 60-minute battle for territorial supremacy. Donning their chosen university’s heritage colors in sartorial solidarity, these steadfast supporters tune in for weekly matchups that rival some of the biggest sports environments in the world. This passion and excitement travels across cultural borders and county lines — even if you’re still not sure why the game stops every half minute.
Amplifying the hype, DoorDash, the go-to gameday delivery service, packed its signature red bags and headed south to one of the most exhilarating CFB hubs: Athens, Georgia, home to the Georgia Bulldogs. As part of a season-long tour that has included stops in Texas and Alabama, this latest destination saw DoorDash press further into blue-blood territory. Boasting an impressive list of accolades and achievements spanning over a century of the program’s history, UGA is the perfect location to really understand what this craze is all about.
Just outside the school’s fabled Sanford Stadium, the brand leaned into the energy of the afternoon, setting up a customizable merch booth only a touchdown throw away from where the action would take place later that night. As the whole city of Athens prepped for the Bulldogs to take the field, DoorDash invited everyone to come through and create a piece of personal memorabilia. Both students and fans filed in to add exclusive patches, pins, and more to DoorDash beanies and ballcaps, snap a couple of flicks in a football-shaped photobooth, and walk away with a few gift cards to help satiate their post-game cravings. All proving that DoorDash truly delivers on college gameday.
During this recent iteration of the DoorDash installation, Highsnobiety arrived in the college town to test the Bulldogs’ fandom, showing how style, sports, and fandom all blend together. With help from fashion influencer and contemporary tastemaker Jade Bird, we set out to find the star students among the swarm of tailgaters. Through three rapid-fire rounds, our contestants had their knowledge put to the test with trivia, their senses activated with a mystery-bag guessing game, and their design skills on display to decide who is really at the top of their class.
“This was my first time doing anything like this, and it could not have been more fun,” Jade says. “As someone who grew up in Canada, nothing could’ve prepared me for how serious (Georgia fans) take college football. It was a whole new experience.”
As we near the finish of the college football regular season — where every win counts and any team can come out on top — there are at least two things we know for certain: In Athens, the Bulldogs run the town, but when it comes to gamedays, DoorDash fuels the festivities.
