A Literal Stealth Upgrade for Already-Perfect Eyewear
RIMOWA and Mykita make it really hard to argue against the notion of "German engineering" as a sort of aesthetic ideal. For as long as these companies have existed — over 100 years and about 22 years, respectively — they've put forth bulletproof products anchored by innovations of their own design, RIMOWA responsible for perfecting the aluminum suitcase and Mykita for glasses fitted with proprietary hinges and sturdy but light frames.
Their collaborative eyewear is, naturally, a little bit of both. Except for the suitcase part.
First released earlier this year, RIMOWA's Mykita sunglasses are very much Mykita informed by RIMOWA.
They're made in Germany of aluminum, of course, and borrow from classic (and some not so classic) shapes for the sake of making all-purpose eyewear that much more beautiful.
Originally, the Mykita shades were produced in rose gold and RIMOWA's signature silver, occasionally accented with black.
But a new edition of the collaborative sunglasses stealthily appeared on RIMOWA's website in late 2025 dressed in black from toe to tip, which is appropriate given their lowkey release.
Another RIMOWA and Mykita collaboration is planned for 2026 so consider this more a taste than a full follow up. But the beauty of the single-tone shapes is in how they highlight Mykita's essentialist forms: giant shield sunnies, staple round-eyed fellows, squared off silhouettes that're almost universally flattering.
RIMOWA's favorite material vanishes into the inky depths, leaving nothing but a classically classic shape to appreciate. Bereft of overt branding, the core qualities come to the fore, and there you have eyewear all but perfected. German engineering, indeed.
